    Rob, I have the Mark 3. Thank you for your tip, I was doing a shoot the other day and could not figure out why the 2 sec timer would not let me bracket. Now I know. I set the custom self timer and it works perfect. Every other camera brand I've shot with brackets perfectly in a 2 sec mode. That's why I was so confused. Thanks Again!

    Would you consider this over the viltrox 56 1.7 and ttartisan 56 1.8?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek 13 годин тому

      I haven't tried the ttartisan lens. But compared to the Viltrox, the key difference is in build quality. Optically, they are very similar. I'd give the edge to the Brightin Star for IQ. The Viltrox is much cheaper, but has a plastic body. This makes it less premium but lighter and smaller. So if you prefer a smaller/lighter lens or on a tight budget, then you'll be very happy with the Viltrox. The Brightin Star is a much more premium lens with all metal build and is weather resistant. Optically, it handles ghosting and flaring much better. I think it also has slightly better contrast and color. Also, it's a brighter lens at f/1.4. Ultimately, you'll get better quality in lower light situations. So if you don't mind the size/weight, I think it's worth going for the Brightin Star.

      @@RobTrek thank you for the reply!! Yeah so far I’m leaning more towards the brightin star but I’m going to check out more videos on the ttartisan since I’m debating if I should sacrifice a longer range for a brighter aperture

    Hello Rob, love your detailed videos. I have a question that I can't find an answer to anywhere. I'm using my OM-1, tethered to my Mac - using OM Capture & OM Workspace. I love my preset in Lightroom Classic and would love to have my photos export directly to Lightroom Classic as I take them. Is that possible at all? I can easily do this tether with my Canon R6; but it so heavy and my OM-1 is much lighter. Any suggestions?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek День тому

      I've never really tethered before. However, I believe the workflow for Olympus will be to use OM Capture and have it save to a "watch folder". Then in Lightroom, setup the auto-import feature. You'll find it in the File menu. Here is a video on setting that up: ua-cam.com/video/ARO5xDrUy9A/v-deo.html So you will have both OM Capture and Lightroom open at the same time. Let me know if that worked. -Rob

      @@RobTrek Thank you so much for your quick response!! When I try to set up Watch Folder in OM Capture, like the video, it doesn't show any folders under Desktop and I don't see Lightroom Classic anywhere in the drop window, only Adobe Lightroom. Is it even possible to do this with Lightroom Classic? That in itself is confusing, lol. Thanks for any input you may have. I can always depend on my Canon R6 using Lightroom Classic, I was just hoping to use my OM-1 because its so much lighter to travel with. Thanks again - I'll have to get that coffee for you!!!

      @RobTrek 8 годин тому

      @@denisehess8458 You setup the watch folder in Lightroom, not OM Capture. In OM Capture, you setup the save folder to the Lightroom watch folder. Yes, it should work in Lightroom classic.

    You’re the man Rob, that was thorough and excellent, thank you! BTW, I just bought the V1 and there is no designation for HS in the I-TTL mode. It seems like it’s only available in the Manual mode, is my flash defective? Also do you recommend returning the V1 for a pro version?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek День тому

      I need to know which camera you have. I'm guessing it's a Nikon. Make sure you have Auto-FP turned on in-camera. You don't need the pro version for HSS in I-TTL. It should work on the V1 non-pro. The Pro version basically has better heat management so it can fire more shots sequentially without overheating.

    • @735Secure
      @735Secure День тому

      @@RobTrek You’re right it’s Nikon d850. It is set on Auto-FP, but I meant to say in off camera rx mode with the Godox X-proN remote it doesn’t fire faster than 1/250 sec. When it’s on camera hot shoe it fires HSS but not off camera. Also when experimenting with V1 in I-TTL mode, off camera and with camera turned off, there’s no HSS option to activate. -- Edit -- I just checked my GODOX ad300pro and it allows HSS in TTL mode (Doesn’t have I-TTL, not sure of the difference in function). Oh just remembered you use Olympus and Sony cameras and they have TTL not i -TTL, and since I’m not sure of the difference I don’t understand the significance. But when i was shooting film i think it was TTL and not iTTL.

    I like wire shutter release, Bulb, aperture matching the lens and amount of light which depends also on distance (usually around F6.3). ISO at base ISO level. When I see rocket going up, I press the shutter and leave it pressed during exposion. Sometimes 2s sometimes 4-5s sometimes even 10s depending on type and amount and cadence of effects on the sky.

    Makes me very happy with my choice of returning to full frame Nikon after a brief flirt with M43, and now with the Z series a Nikon Z7 is not that much bigger than the top of the range Olympus. The Zfc also performs very well for a DX camera if you can get over the idea that is just for looks and hipsters....

    Hello Rob-Robin! Great discussion. I am into Bird Photography using Nikon D500 and Nikon 300 F4 with TC. The entire weight of kit is around 1600 Grams The price I paid for both is 1500 USD used. If I compare Olympus Om-1 weight is nearly 600 Grams and 300 f/4 the the weight is 1270 Grams so it’s nearly 300 grams more. The used price for both is humongous nearly 3500 USD I feel OM-System Camera and lenses prices are not justified, even used ones are pricey compared to other manufacturers. The weight factor that you talk about is definitely there is some cases but not in my case of Bird photography. Just out of curiosity I sold some of my stuff and bought Olympus EM5 with broken screen and 17mm 2.8 and boy I loved the combo But still everything is so pricey in Olympus world What you think what Olympus should do to cater people like me ?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek 2 дні тому

      I've never used the d500, but I remember it was on my short list back when I shot Nikon. While the d500 is certainly a capable wildlife camera, I don't think it can keep up with the OM-1 when it comes to bird tracking and fps. That aside, the OM-1 has a 600mm equivalent field of view compared to the Nikon's 450mm. Adding a TC levels things out a bit, but you lose a stop of light. So I think the OM-1 still holds the advantage. Finally, the Nikon system doesn't have image stabilization. As for cost, no question the Nikon is a tremendous value. Just keep your shutter speeds up and get good at tracking by eye and you'll get excellent images that will rival any camera system. You really only need the OM-1 for the bells and whistles for other types of photography. Pro capture, Live ND, Starry Sky AF, Focus Stacking, high res shot, etc... The closest option to meet the price point of the Nikon is an E-M1 Mark II with Olympus 100-400mm.

    • @chinmayeed
      @chinmayeed 2 дні тому

      @@RobTrek Thank you! Yes agree completely in terms of technology OM-1 is much ahead as it’s hardly couple of years old. Yes adding 1.4 TC it comes 630mm equivalent and works well. The size/weight of MFTs are almost catching up with APSCs and Full frame. I was looking at Mirrorless due to its smaller form factor but that’s not the case now. But older models are good. Very happy with my EM5 i and 17 2.8 Hoping OM system launches OM-3 soonest possible so that OM-1 becomes reasonable. Keep posting good informative stuff ..really appreciate your work

    Few years ago I was shooting for local weekly newspaper for couple years. At that time mostly carrying Pentax K5, flash, Sig 8-16, Sig 17-50/2.8, Pentax DA18-135 and then Sig 70-200/2.8 or Sig 100-300/4 or small Pentax DA55-300 depending on event/location/needs. That camera with 18-135 or 17-50/2.8 already is quite small combo when compared to Canon or Nikon counterparts. Especially monsters like 5DII, D800 with 24-70/2.8 lenses etc. that most colleagues used. But it was still a big bag sometimes Today I would probably just get EM5III with 12-100/4, 25/1.7, 75-300 and small flash. It will be good enough to cover cca 75% of the work I did. Maybe I would have to buy 9-18 to cover wide shots, then it will be 90%. And I'll be able to easily send some pics through phone right from the event. M4/3 for journalists looks like ideal system. There is no need for high resolution for newspapers and maybe even Stylus1s will be enough for some reports :D Great compact camera for beginners or even guys who want some manual controls is the Olympus XZ-2. They are still available on 2nd hand market with price around $100-150. It shoots RAW, it has flash hotshoe, it can use filters, lens is fast and resolution is good, wire remote is possible, LCD can tilt, IBIS helps, it can be charged by USB everywhere and even EVF can be attached. Great little companion.

    I have 2 Godox TT685 flashes and an Olympus M5 MkII camera, using the camera flash to make a remote flash pop as you describe, BUT how do you kind of reverse that command so you can hold the remote flash some distance away and make the camera flash (and shutter) respond. I want to try the famous "flambient" technique by popping a flash in the distance to cause the camera flash AND SHUTTER to go off. Probably a dumb question since everybody and their cousins do this in real estate photography etc. I also have the little Godox X1 Trans/Rec if I need that. • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek 7 днів тому

      The light fall-off of a standard reflector is a bit harsher and spreads wider. Adding a grid narrows the light but takes at least 1 stop away. Also, you need more distance from the grid so you don't get a "grid" pattern on your subject. The Fresnel focuses the light but the fall-off is smoother.

    Wow, Rob, your comments about Fujifilm colours exactly reflected my opinion too! I call the greens "radioactive green" because they seem to glow especially in bright sunlight. As for the skin tones, I simply cannot get it right whatever I tried to colour grade a raw file. It always seems too orangey. I have the X-T3, so you will see exactly what you are seeing now with your Fuji, so don't chose that camera! Ergonomic wise, the X-T3 handles like a brick. My D750 and E-M5ii eats it for breakfast.

      Thanks. I thought it was strange. I need to come up with a color profile of my own.

    Do you know what happened to DxO? I was just about to buy the software after dumping LR and their website does not seem to be active. It just says "something exciting is coming." Cant even buy a license...!
